A candle ad is usually one of a few recurring formats: a cosy room, a seasonal scene, a lit-versus-unlit pair, a flat lay, and a gift shot. A small brand makes each of these from one clean product shot, generating the scene around the real candle so the jar and label stay exact.
| Format | What it shows | Where it runs | How to make it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cosy room | The lit candle on a table in a warm room | Feed, reels | Place the saved candle in a styled room scene |
| Seasonal scene | The candle styled for a time of year | Feed, ads | Generate a seasonal setting around the real jar |
| Lit vs unlit | The candle unlit beside the same jar lit | Feed, product page | Generate one scene, add a natural flame to a copy |
| Flat lay | The candle among everyday objects | Feed, email | Build a flat-lay scene around the saved candle |
| Gift shot | The candle boxed or ribboned as a present | Feed, stories | Compose the real jar in a generated gift setting |
Formats that work in candle ads
Cosy room
What it shows: The lit candle on a side table or shelf in a warm, lived-in room. Why it converts: It sells the mood the candle creates at home, which a plain jar shot cannot. The example places the fictional brand's real jar in a generated room and keeps the label exact.
Seasonal scene
What it shows: The candle styled for a time of year, autumn textures, winter light, spring stems. Why it converts: Seasonal framing makes the candle feel timely and nudges gifting. The example generates only the seasonal setting around the real jar.
Lit vs unlit
What it shows: The candle unlit beside the same jar lit, as a pair. Why it converts: The flame signals use and warmth, while the unlit shot shows the clean glass and label. The example generates one scene and adds a small, natural flame to a copy.
Flat lay
What it shows: The candle among everyday objects on a styled surface. Why it converts: A flat lay suits the feed and an email header and reads as a styled still. The example arranges a generated scene around the saved candle.
Gift shot
What it shows: The candle boxed, ribboned or set beside a card as a present. Why it converts: It positions the candle for gifting occasions, where a lot of candle sales land. The example composes the real jar in a generated gift setting.
Make each format with AI
Every format starts the same way: lift the real candle off its background, save it as a reference, then generate the scene around it.
- Upload the product photo and lift the jar off its background on the Canvas
- Save it as a reference so the glass, wax and label stay exact
- Describe the format's scene (cosy room, seasonal, lit versus unlit, flat lay, gift) and generate variations
Tool: AI ad generator. Keep the lift-and-generate steps as a saved Workflow so each new scent reuses the same recipe.
Candle-specific rules
A candle ad lives or dies on the jar reading true, so the creative has a few limits the scene generation does not remove:
- Keep the jar exact. The glass, wax, wick and label stay as poured; only the room and props are generated.
- Keep the flame honest. A small, soft flame reads as real; an oversized or unnatural glow reads as fake and undercuts trust.
- No invented endorsements or reviews. Do not add a quote, a rating or a testimonial you cannot source.
- Match the burn to the copy. If the caption mentions scent throw or burn time, keep those to what you can stand behind.
Static vs video versions
Each static format has a motion version. A cosy room becomes a gentle flicker clip; a seasonal scene becomes a slow push-in; a lit-versus-unlit pair becomes a short light-up. Animate the still with image-to-video, keep the motion subtle, and export a 9:16 for reels and a 1:1 for the feed. For the full video method, see how to make a candle product video from photos.
