FAQs
What is a squeal sound effect?
It is a long, high, piercing sound: tyres in a hard turn, brakes, a pig, or an excited child. A squeal is held for longer than a squeak and usually carries more force.
Where can I get squeal sounds for a video?
Describe the source and how long it should hold, then generate it. Each sound here shows its prompt, so you can adjust the pitch or the length for your cut.
How do I make a custom squeal sound effect?
State the source, its length and how the pitch moves, for example "steel train brakes squealing to a stop, a sustained screech that slowly drops in pitch". Keep it specific to the material.
What is the difference between a squeal and a squeak?
A squeak is short, small and quick, like a hinge or a mouse. A squeal is longer, louder and piercing, like skidding tyres or a pig. If it holds past a moment, it is a squeal.
Can I use these squeal sounds commercially?
Yes, audio generated on paid plans can be used commercially. See our terms for full licensing details. Because each squeal is generated for you, the same tyre skid will not run in another trailer.
Why is my squeal too piercing for the mix?
Sustained high pitches fatigue the ear fast. Ask for a lower pitch or a shorter hold, and duck the music under it so the squeal reads clearly rather than painfully.
