How does changing the background colour work?
Morphic separates the subject from the background and recolours the area behind it to the shade you ask for. This is inpainting, so instead of dropping a flat swatch behind a hard cut-out, the model rebuilds the background at the new colour and relights the subject so the light and shadow match. That is what keeps a recolour from looking like a bad cut and paste.
Will the edges around the subject stay clean?
The aim is that they do. Because the model reads where the subject ends rather than relying on a rough selection, fine edges like hair, fur, and soft focus hold up better than a manual mask. If a stray fringe of the old colour is left along an edge, one rerun usually clears it.
Why does the subject look relit after the change?
A new background colour changes the light bouncing onto the subject, so Morphic adjusts the subject to match. A warm background throws a little warmth onto the edges, a dark one deepens the contrast.
