Text to 3D

Making a 3D model from a written description

What is text to 3D?

Text to 3D is a kind of AI generation that turns a written prompt into a 3D model, usually a textured mesh you can rotate, render or export. It skips manual modeling for the first draft, so you can test ideas in minutes. Results vary, and detailed or animated work still needs cleanup.

Think of it like this

It is like describing a prop to a model maker and getting a first version back within minutes, ready to refine.

Where it fits in a 3D project

  1. Create
  2. Surface
  3. Rig
  4. Animate
  5. Render
  6. Export

Create: Building the shape: modeling, sculpting, scanning or generating it.

How text to 3D works

  1. 01You write a prompt describing the object, its style and its materials.
  2. 02The AI generates a 3D shape that matches the description.
  3. 03It builds a mesh and textures from that shape.
  4. 04You download the model, often as a GLB file, and refine it in a 3D app.

Text to 3D vs image to 3D

Best forExploring ideas fastMatching a design you already have

Start with text to explore; switch to image to 3D when the model has to match a specific design.

Where text to 3D is used

  • Props and set dressing for scenes and games
  • Quick concept models to test an idea
  • Placeholder assets while final models are built

Beginner tip

Describe one object at a time and name its material and style, such as “a worn leather armchair, studio lighting.” Single, clear objects generate far better than whole scenes.

Text to 3D in Morphic

In Morphic for Blender, open the 3D tab, type a prompt and generate. The model is imported with its materials at the 3D cursor, and the button shows the credit price before anything is charged.

Text to 3D FAQ

How good are text-to-3D models?
Good enough for concepts, props and background objects, and improving fast. Close-up hero assets, characters that need animation, and anything with exact dimensions usually still need cleanup or manual modeling.
What file format does text to 3D produce?
Most tools export GLB or glTF, which keep the mesh, materials and textures together in one file. Many also offer OBJ, FBX or USDZ for other apps.
Can I use text to 3D inside Blender?
Yes, with an add-on that connects Blender to a generation service. Morphic for Blender adds a 3D tab that generates a model from a prompt and places it at the 3D cursor.
Can text-to-3D models be animated?
They can, but most arrive as a single unrigged mesh. Add a skeleton first (rigging), and often retopologize so the mesh bends cleanly.
