Mesh
The surface of a 3D model, made of points, lines and flat faces
What is a mesh in 3D?
A mesh is the surface of a 3D model, built from vertices (points), edges (lines between points) and faces (the flat shapes the edges enclose). Almost every model in games, films and 3D apps is a mesh. More faces give smoother curves and more detail, but a heavier file.
Think of it like this
Think of a chicken-wire sculpture: the wire crossings are vertices, the wires are edges, and each gap you could cover with paper is a face.
Where it fits in a 3D project

How a mesh works
- 01You start from a simple shape, like a cube or a sphere.
- 02You move, add or cut vertices, edges and faces to shape it.
- 03The software stores each point’s position and how the points connect.
- 04Textures and materials go over the faces to give it a look.
Mesh vs NURBS
| Property | Mesh | NURBS |
|---|---|---|
| Built from | Flat polygon faces | Smooth mathematical curves |
| Curves | Approximated with many faces | Perfectly smooth at any zoom |
| Common in | Games, film, animation, AI models | Car and product design, CAD |
| Editing | Push and pull points | Adjust control points |
Use a mesh for anything that will be animated, textured or used in a game; use NURBS when a product needs exact, manufacturable curves.
Where a mesh is used
- Characters, props and sets for games and animation
- Models made by text-to-3D and image-to-3D tools
- Files you send to a 3D printer
Beginner tip
Turn on wireframe view early. Seeing the mesh lines shows where detail is piling up and where a shape needs more faces to bend cleanly.
Mesh in Morphic
In Morphic for Blender, the 3D tab turns a prompt, a selected image or a viewport capture into a mesh with its materials, placed at the 3D cursor. From there you edit it like any other mesh.
