AI character swap with Morphic Recast

Put new people in a finished shot. The motion, timing and sound stay as filmed.

AI character swap examples

Take a look at a few recasts made with Morphic Recast. The small photo shows who each new person came from.

Original

The original micro drama shot is on the left, with three possible leads beside it. The coat, the turn from the window, the line and the rain light match in every take, so the casting call comes down to who carries the scene.

Swap a character in three steps

  1. 01

    Open Morphic Recast

Sign up and open the Recast tool on a free-flowing, infinite visual canvas. It is ready for a clip and your cast photos.

  2. 02

Add the clip and the new cast

Upload one shot up to 30 seconds long. Add one clear, front-facing photo of each person you want on screen.

  3. 03

Name the swap, pick a take

Say who replaces whom, such as the man on the left. Ask for a few versions and compare them side by side.

What teams use AI character swap for

Test a cast before you commit

Recast one key scene with three possible leads and watch the same performance on each face. A casting call settles in an afternoon, before a whole season is built around one choice.

Recast one ad for every market

Keep the edit, the product shots and the timing, and change who is on screen for each audience. One finished spot becomes a set of market versions, ready for dubbing.

Turn stand-ins into final characters

Block a scene with whoever is available, then recast the stand-ins as the characters you designed. The blocking and camera work stay, so pitch reels and previz read like the real thing.

Change one person, keep the scene

In a dialogue or group shot, recast only the character who needs to change. Everyone without a photo stays as filmed, so a late casting change never means regenerating the scene.

FAQs

What is an AI character swap?
An AI character swap replaces a person on screen with someone else while the rest of the shot stays as filmed. On Morphic this is Morphic Recast: you give it a clip and one photo of each new person, and it returns the same clip with your new cast in it. The motion, expressions, lip movements, camera, cuts, background and soundtrack all carry over.
How long can the clip be?
Morphic Recast works on clips up to 30 seconds. For a longer scene, cut it into shots and recast each one with the same photos, then assemble the sequence in Compose. Shorter, single-shot clips with the person clearly in frame give the cleanest result.
Can I swap one person in a group shot and leave the others?
Yes. Say who to replace by what you can see, such as "the man on the left in the grey jacket", and attach one photo for that person. Anyone you do not give a photo for stays exactly as shot, so a two-person dialogue can change one lead and keep the other.
How do I keep a recast character the same across many clips?
Use the same photo every time, or save the character as a Reference in Morphic and add it by name. A reference sheet with several views of the person works best. The same reference going into every shot is what keeps a recast lead looking like one person from episode to episode.
What happens to the audio?
The soundtrack comes back as it was shot, so dialogue timing, music and room sound line up with the new picture. To give the new character a different voice or a new language, run the recast clip through dubbing or speech-to-speech as a next step.
Is this the same as a face swap?
No. A face swap pastes a face onto a still photo. Morphic Recast replaces the whole person in a moving clip, hair and build included, and keeps their performance. For a single picture, the AI face swap tool is the better fit.
Can I use a photo of a real person?
Only with that person’s permission. For tests, pitches and public work, the safest route is a character you generated in Morphic, which you can design from a prompt and save as a Reference before you recast.
Which plans include Morphic Recast?
Morphic Recast is available on every paid plan. You can start from the prompt bar, from the video edit options on the Canvas, or by asking Copilot in plain words.
