Transform
An object’s location, rotation and scale: where it is, which way it faces, how big
Also called Location, rotation and scale, Object transform
What is a transform in 3D?
A transform is an object’s location, rotation and scale: where it sits, which way it faces and how big it is. Changing it moves the whole object without reshaping the mesh inside. In Blender, press G to move, R to rotate and S to scale, and read exact values in the N sidebar.
Think of it like this
Like a photo on a phone screen: drag to move it, twist to rotate it, pinch to resize it, and the photo itself never changes.

How a transform works
- 01Every object stores three sets of numbers: location, rotation and scale.
- 02Press G, R or S in Object Mode, then type X, Y or Z to lock an axis.
- 03Type a number to move, turn or resize by an exact amount, then press Enter.
- 04Press Ctrl+A to apply transforms, baking the current values into the mesh.
Transform vs editing the mesh
| Property | Transform | Editing the mesh |
|---|---|---|
| Changes | Position, facing and size | The shape itself |
| Mode in Blender | Object Mode | Edit Mode |
| Keyframe it | Yes, the usual way to animate | Not directly |
| Linked copies | Each object moves on its own | All change together |
Transform an object to place, turn or animate it; edit its mesh when the shape itself should change.
Where a transform is used
- Placing props, lights and cameras in a scene
- Animating objects by keying location and rotation
- Matching real sizes before physics, export or printing
Transform in Morphic
Copilot in Morphic for Blender reads each object’s transforms and dimensions in the open scene, so a request such as moving a lamp or matching two heights starts from the real numbers. Each change runs only after you click Apply.
